Tech Tip of the Week: My Favorite Gadget

by Alexa Drago on October 18, 2013

The holidays are almost here and that means it’s time to start thinking about presents. Today’s gadget is the perfect present—inexpensive and something you’ll really use. Once you own it, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it! One of the frustrating things about traveling is trying to find an outlet for your phone, tablet, computer, etc. It seems like outlets in hotel rooms are in the most inconvenient place possible. And when you find one, there’s usually something already plugged into it. If you’re in an airport (especially DIA), outlets are even fewer and farther between.

Here’s the answer—Monster Power Outlets to Go 4 Outlet Travel Power Strip. At $9.49 it’s a steal! It’s very compact and allows you to plug in four devices. The plugs are spaced so that even bulky plugs will fit. At 6.25″ X 1.25″ X 1.8″, it’s small enough to fit into a briefcase or purse.

Solo in Colo Gadget Check it out on Amazon.

If you want to give a present that will get a lot of use, this fits the bill. And be sure to buy an extra one for yourself.

A better alternative is the Belkin SurgePlus USB Swivel Charger. It provides surge protection as well as 3 outlets and 2 USB ports. The plug rotates so no matter what hotel room you are stuck in, it still will work. With 3 plugs and 2 USB ports you can eliminate some extensions and travel accessories. The surge protection works wonderfully in 3 world countries. The Plug comes with a plastic cap so the prongs do not get bent or damage other items in your travel cases. Mine is 4 years old. More than 100 days a year no the road and still works great. It also comes with a $75,000 equipment warranty and a lifetime warranty on the device.
