Casemaker Weekly – October 2nd, 2019

This week we talk about the ways you can share what you found in Casemaker with others. Let’s get started!

So, you found the PERFECT case for your argument and you just have to share it with your partner. But your partner doesn’t have access to Casemaker. In Casemaker4 there are a number of ways you can share that case – and anything else you find in Casemaker, with anyone.

Some people prefer the feeling of print in hand, and if you share your office with your partner, you can simply use the print function in Casemaker4 to print the case out and walk it over to them. When you are viewing the document in Casemaker you will see a number of icons in the upper right grey bar. The first of these icons is a box with a plus. This will add the document you are viewing to the Print Queue, so you can print it along with any other documents you have added to you queue at a later time. You can access what you have added to your print queue by clicking the Print Queue link in the upper right of the Casemaker4 system or by clicking Print Queue under My Account.

“But what if I want to add all the citing references to my Print Queue as well?”, you ask. Next to the simple plus box there is a plus icon in a notepad. Clicking this icon will allow you to add not just the case but all the associated cases which mention the case to the Print Queue.

Of course, maybe you don’t plan on printing anything else and you just wish to print this one case so you can share it with your partner. No problem! Click the printer icon. Once you have clicked the printer icon a window will appear giving you options for what kind of document you wish to print, what format you wish to print in, and what information, references, and notes you wish to include.

Perhaps, you would rather save a tree and not print this case. You have paper-free options as well. You can click the envelope icon and email the case to your partner. You can click the icon with the computer and the downward arrow, and you can download the case to the drive or media of your choice. Finally, you could just send your partner a link using the links icon. With the links icon, you will get a sharable link that works for anyone, including those who do not have access to Casemaker.

And if your partner doesn’t have time to read the entire case? You can highlight the important part of the case and right-click with your mouse. This will allow you to copy the highlighted text with a shareable link. You also can copy your highlighted portion will the citation or the pin citation if you prefer.
